Calorie calculation guide
What is a calorie?

A calorie is a unit of energy obtained from food and drinks. Our body consumes calories for basic life activities (breathing, blood circulation, cell production, etc.) and daily activities.

What is Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)?

Basal Metabolic Rate is the minimum amount of energy required to sustain life in complete rest. It varies according to weight, height, age, and gender.

What is MET?

MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) is a unit representing the energy consumption of an activity. 1 MET equals resting metabolic rate, the more intense the activity, the higher the MET value.

Calorie calculation formulas
Calorie burn = MET × weight(kg) × time(hours)
Example: A 70kg person doing a MET 5.0 activity for 30 minutes burns 5.0 × 70 × 0.5 = 175 kcal.
Frequently asked questions

Generally, the Mifflin-St Jeor formula is most accurate. If you know your body fat percentage, the Katch-McArdle formula may be more accurate.

BMR is calorie burn in complete rest, while TDEE is total daily calorie burn including daily activities. TDEE = BMR × activity factor.

Generally, a deficit of 500 kcal daily (0.5kg loss per week) is recommended. Too drastic calorie restriction can be harmful to health.
