Learn About VAT

What is VAT?

VAT (Value Added Tax) is a consumption tax charged on the value added at each stage of production. It is collected by businesses on behalf of the government and ultimately paid by consumers.

How to calculate VAT?

Add VAT: Gross = Net × (1 + Rate/100). Remove VAT: Net = Gross ÷ (1 + Rate/100). Example: For 10% VAT, adding to 100 gives 110, removing from 110 gives 100.

VAT vs GST vs Sales Tax

VAT, GST (Goods and Services Tax), and Sales Tax are all consumption taxes. VAT is used in EU, Korea, Japan. GST is used in Australia, Canada, India. Sales Tax is used in USA (varies by state, 0-10%).
