Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR) is the waist circumference divided by hip circumference, an important indicator for assessing abdominal obesity and cardiovascular disease risk. It can predict health risks more accurately than BMI.

About WHR

What is WHR?

Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR) is the waist circumference divided by hip circumference. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends it as an indicator for assessing abdominal obesity and health risks.

How to Measure Accurately

Accurate measurement is important for correct results.

  • Waist: Measure at navel level after exhaling. Place the tape directly on skin, not over clothing.
  • Hip: Measure at the widest part of the hips. This is the most protruding part when viewed from the side.
Why WHR is Important

WHR predicts risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and hypertension more accurately than BMI. Visceral fat accumulated in the abdomen is more harmful to health than subcutaneous fat. Apple-shaped bodies (abdominal obesity) have higher health risks than pear-shaped bodies.
