Calculator/Home Appliance Calculators/ Tile & Paint Quantity Calculator

What is this tile & paint calculator?

Enter the area you plan to cover and it estimates how many tiles or how much paint you need in advance. It factors in waste rate and number of coats so you buy enough without overspending.

Enter values

m

%

Extra to cover cutting and breakage. Usually 5-10%.

Formula

Area = width x height. Tiles = ceil(area x (1 + waste rate) / area of one tile). Paint = area x coats / coverage (m2/L); cans = ceil(paint / can size).

How to use

  1. Choose whether to calculate the number of tiles or the amount of paint.
  2. Enter the width and height of the wall or floor, or enter the area directly if you know it.
  3. Enter the tile size and waste rate, or the coverage and number of coats, then press Calculate.

Example

For a 3 m x 2.4 m (7.2 m2) wall with 30x30 cm tiles at a 10% waste rate, you need about 88 tiles. Painting the same wall twice with paint that covers 10 m2/L uses about 1.44 L.

Frequently asked questions

Why include a waste rate?
Some tiles get cut or broken, so you need extra. For complex patterns, 10% or more is recommended.
Where do I find the coverage?
It is printed on the paint label or instructions as coverage per liter. It is usually 8-12 m2/L and varies with the surface.
Can I calculate several walls at once?
Choose Enter area directly and input the sum of each walls area. Subtract the area of windows and doors.
